When Marshalls Aerospace in Cambridge needed to relocate an aircraft wing test rig at 120’ long they found the specialist equipment of the Rolls transport division of Hallett Silbermann fitted the bill perfectly.
The rig had been built ‘in situ’ some 25 years earlier by Borley Brothers and it was they who were contracted to dismantle the rig into 3 sections as it was too large to move in one piece.
After some 3 years in the planning the rig sections were moved by Hallett Silbermann in the early hours of Sunday 28th June 2003 on 3 fully steered low loaders. The route through the works, across the Newmarket Road and around the airport included a trip down the main runway!
Despite having only inches to spare in places, the movement was completed without a hitch and on schedule.
